I began my journey as a dungeon master in 2015. I hosted a dozen of different groups that had different playstyles. From the beginning, I have been using campaigns and worlds I created.
I will not bore you with exotic names of mysterious lands and endless lore. I will only briefly mention the major content I created and the relevant things I learned from those years.
Created Content:
-New combat system that I balanced over the years.
-Simplified character stats and skills to be more beginner friendly.
-New magic system.
-Custom economy system.
-Character sheets to fit my custom systems.
-Two worlds including their own flore, fauna, religions, races, history, geology...(everything)
Things I learned:
-Understand the player's perspective and develop a player-centric mindset.
-The distinctions between a single player’s behavior and a group’s behavior.
-Got better at predicting certain behaviors.
-What makes a thing memorable.
-Create and bring dilemas to players.
-Balance and adapt system/ mechanics after players use them.
-Introduce worldbuilding and story elements using mechanics and the environment.
-Found new ways to adapt my content to better suit different target audiences.
-Adding new material while keeping everything cohesive.
